Jason Claude Lapierre

1971 - 2006

Jason Lapierre, son of Judy Hart and Claude Lapierre, attended CCVS from 1985 to 1990. During his high school years, his amazing athletic ability, boundless energy and fierce sense of determination and competition contributed to the Raiders' success in soccer, football and basketball. He was awarded the CCVS Athletic Achievement Award in 88-89 for X-Country and in 89-90 for Alpine Skiing.

Jason obtained his Bachelor of Kinesiology with Honours from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, ON. He began his ski coaching career in Thunder Bay with the Lake Superior Alpine Division where he coached for 7 years before moving on in 2000 to coach for and later become the Program Director of the Calgary Alpine Racing Club.

Jason was an Elite Coach with the Canadian Alpine Ski Federation and contributed to the development of future Olympians, mainly John Kucera. As a Canadian duathon champion and triathlon and Ironman Canada competitor, Jason raised the bar for athletic performance and set the highest level of standard within the athletic community. Jason was a powerful mentor to many across Canada. His legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of those who had the privilege to share his presence and energy .

Jason was a generous and fun-loving individual. He embodied all that we honour in an athlete and coach and much of what we aspire to as human beings, - love of family, integrity, compassion, loyalty and an endless quest for self-improvement and knowledge.

He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Whether you knew him as a coach, fellow competitor, colleague or friend, his sparkling blue eyes, winning smile and words of encouragement left a lasting impression. No matter what he was doing, he was happy to make time for your questions, celebrations and problems. You always felt special in his presence.

Jason's family request that you share in their desire for his legacy to live on. The Jason Lapierre Memorial Bursary Fund is being set up with the intent of a scholarship to be awarded to a graduate of CCVS who demonstrates athletic excellence and a desire to pursue a degree in Kinesiology.
